Director, writer and creator of immersive cultural projects. For many years I have worked as a film and television director, made promotional and image films, created cultural performances and worked across media – with long experience in CCTV location directing, films for state-owned enterprises and public institutions, and immersive cultural projects. Among my main works are the immersive series Encounter the East, the CCTV “Chinese Dream” song film Setting Out Once More (再一次出發) and the biographical documentary Grandmaster Li Ziming (一代宗師—李子鳴).

Encounter the East · Feast of the Auspicious Hour 見東方·吉時饗宴
Set in the Xinmin Street historic and cultural district of Changchun, in a large surround-screen immersive theatre. Following the thread of the “auspicious hour”, six acts bring together ritual music and dance, Eastern opera, live folk-custom scenes, image theatre and concert. Approved in mid-July 2025, it opened in January 2026 after 128 days of creative work. How it was made is told in the Director’s Notebook.

Encounter the East · Feast of the Laureate 見東方·及第盛宴
Beijing’s first immersive production set in a historic courtyard residence: the former home of Tan Zongjun, the second-ranked graduate (bangyan) of the imperial examination in the late Qing dynasty, at 162 Fuchengmennei Street, Xicheng District. An outdoor water stage, a multimedia image theatre and an immersive banquet space form a narrative across several spaces.

Approach
My work centres on conceptual artistic expression: through dramatic structure, spatial storytelling and the fusion of multimedia images I build immersive forms of cultural expression. I work mainly project by project, developing an overall artistic concept around a specific cultural theme and realising it with teams from different disciplines. I aim to translate the essence of Eastern culture into immersive artistic experiences that today’s audiences can perceive and take part in, bringing narrative structure, spatial expression and audience interaction together. In recent years I have been working to bring Eastern culture to international audiences and exploring locally rooted creative practice in an international context.

2018 – 2026
Living in Europe; Feast of the Auspicious Hour opens in Changchun
Living in Europe and working on the international development of the immersive cultural series Encounter the East. Leading the planning of Encounter the East · Flowing Banquet – European edition (見東方·曲水流觴), with the support of the Culinary Arts Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Catering Industry, to rebuild the way Eastern banquet culture is perceived in an international context. At the same time, field research and creative work in Aachen on the cross-cultural documentary Sacred Spaces (信仰空間), exploring how sacred spaces in East and West can be expressed on film.
2026: writer and director of the music-poetry-image stage play 《咱家住下搶修隊》.
Encounter the East · Feast of the Auspicious Hour (見東方·吉時饗宴): approved in mid-July 2025, it opened in January 2026 in the Xinmin Street historic and cultural district of Changchun after a creative period of 128 days. As chief director, led the production team through six acts – Mountain Rite, Tribute, Winter Fishing, Images, Setting Sail and Vitality – bringing together ritual music and dance, Eastern opera, live folk-custom scenes, image theatre and concert. This Bowl of Porridge; honorary adviser to the Culinary Arts Committee
June 2025: appointed honorary adviser to the Culinary Arts Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Catering Industry; the founding meeting was reported by the CPPCC Daily website and other media (rmzxw.com.cn, china.com; in Chinese).
The same year: writer and chief director of the short drama This Bowl of Porridge (這一碗粥) on the theme of integrity. A bowl of plain porridge is the thread of the story: across three periods – the War of Resistance against Japan, the early years of reform and opening-up, and today – it follows the experiences and choices of three generations of one family. Also wrote the lyrics of the theme song of the same name (music: Li Qingbai; sung by Duoyi), released on QQ Music. Media report: Sohu (in Chinese).
Feast of the Laureate premieres in Beijing
Lead creator of the immersive cultural series Encounter the East, as chief director and author of the core creative concept, responsible for the overall artistic design and the narrative structure. Encounter the East · Feast of the Laureate (見東方·及第盛宴), Beijing’s first immersive production set in a historic courtyard residence, was refined throughout 2023 and premiered in early 2024. Its setting is the former residence of Tan Zongjun, the second-ranked graduate (bangyan) of the imperial examination in the late Qing dynasty, at 162 Fuchengmennei Street, Xicheng District, Beijing; an outdoor water stage, a multimedia image theatre and an immersive banquet space form a narrative across several spaces.

Took part in the Starverse project (星際人), building new art professions together with the Douyin platform and helping artists open up new paths in new media. Chief director of the promotional film for the documentary on the early planning and venue transformation of the hall edition of Encounter the East, created by the Oriental Performing Arts Group and Hefangyuan. The Road of Strengthening Foundations; Hoping for Spring; events and films
2021: short videos within the programme and several behind-the-scenes live streams (on Yangshipin) during the finals of Avenue of Stars. Chief filming director of the singing gala “Logistics Soldiers’ Hearts Turn to the Party” of the Logistic Support Department of the Central Military Commission, celebrating the Party’s 100th anniversary. Planned and organised the first Chengde Tea Industry Innovation Summit and Tea Sealing Ceremony at the imperial garden of the Chengde Mountain Resort, as chief director. Chief director of the model film on archive management for the Finance Bureau of the CMC Logistic Support Department. Chief director of the promotional film of Longyuan Beijing Design Company (China Energy). Producer and director of the New China Life wellness promotional film.
2020: wrote the theme song The Road of Strengthening Foundations (強基之路) for the Ministry of Education’s “Strong Foundation Plan” admissions reform – music by Lin Lei, sung by the child singer Yang Shuo, with students and teachers of the China Conservatory of Music on backing vocals and harmonies. Planned and carried out the cultural activity series “Hoping for Spring, Safeguarding the Return to School”, and took part in creating Hoping for Spring (期許春天) (China Education Television, People’s Weekly; in Chinese).
Setting Out Once More; keynote film for the Alliance of International Science Organizations
2019: director of the International Science Alliance promotional film for the Ministry of Science and Technology; director of the latest DOCOMO technology feature; chief planner and juror of the “Aspiring to the Blue Sky” International Aviation Talent Competition; director of the promotional films on outstanding teams of SDIC, on the corporate culture of Kehuan Group and on 712 Communication & Broadcasting Co., Ltd.; director of the keynote film for the first “Belt and Road” Alliance of International Science Organizations, premiered at its founding conference in the Great Hall of the People. Attended the “Forbidden City Elegant Gathering” hosted by the Palace Museum, with He Zuoru, Li Xiangting, Fang Jinlong, Wu Lin, He Shuifa, Zhang Zequn and others; accompanied the singer Li Guangxi to the Chongqing opening of “Snow Country Spirit”, the national touring exhibition of the oil painter Feng Qing, “China’s first ice-and-snow painter”, in support of the Winter Olympics. Took part in the preparation and recording of the 2019 finals of CCTV’s Avenue of Stars.
2018: director of the five-year achievements report film of the National Defence Mobilisation Department; planner and director of the China Energy New Year reception two years in a row.

Setting Out Once More (再一次出發), part of CCTV’s “Chinese Dream” series of newly created songs, released in February 2018: director (credited in the directing team). Sung by Han Lei and filmed in Beijing, Xiong’an, Shanghai, Shenzhen and on the Great Wall, it was broadcast many times the same year on CCTV-3 (Variety) and CCTV-1 (General).
